Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) Grant

Program Overview

The Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) Grant assists students experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, or students that were in foster care at the time of graduating from high school. Any enrolled student at WVC can request assistance from SSEH.

SSEH funds are meant to be low-barrier for quick resolution of immediate needs and are not intended to provide ongoing relief of recurring expenses.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for this grant, you must be an enrolled student at WVC who meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • You are currently experiencing homelessness. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • "Couch-surfing" or temporarily staying with friends or relatives.
    • Sleeping outside or in a vehicle.
    • Sleeping at a shelter, hotel, or other temporary living situation.
  • You are currently experiencing critical housing insecurity. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • Past-due or unable to pay your rent due to a situation outside your control.
    • In danger of losing your current housing if you do not receive immediate support.
  • You were in foster care at the time you graduated high school or completed a high school equivalency.

What SSEH can help with:

  • Emergency rental assistance & eviction prevention
  • New rental assistance
  • Emergency short-term housing
  • Access to mail, storage, and/or laundry facilities
  • Access to technology needed for classes
  • Emergency utility assistance
  • Transportation assistance
  • Food & hygiene assistance

What SSEH cannot help with:

  • Ongoing rental assistance
  • Long-term housing support
  • Tuition 
  • Course fees
  • Fines, outstanding debt, or other non-housing-related expenses
